As of October 8, 1987, (Julian Date 281) the valve body clamping plate, Item Number 85 in Figure 1, was eliminated from production of all 440-T4 transaxles. Studies indicated this part was not required for proper clamp load on the control valve assembly, spacer plate, and gaskets.

Transaxles built prior to October 8, 1987 (Julian Date Z81) will not be affected if the part is left out during reassembly. The strap (Service Part Number 8658287) will no longer be produced and will not be available when GMSPO stock is depleted.
