LOW BRAKE PEDAL OPERATION NEW CALIPER P/N DECREASE PEDAL

1986 1000 MODELS

THE LOW DRAG FRONT CALIPERS THAT ENTERED PRODUCTION WITH THE START OF THE 1986 MODEL YEAR RESULTED IN A SLIGHT INCREASE IN SERVICE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL. SOME CUSTOMERS MAY FIND THE INCREASED PEDAL TRAVEL UNDESIRABLE. TO PROVIDE REDUCED PEDAL TRAVEL, NEW LOW DISPLACEMENT FRONT CALIPERS WERE RELEASED FOR PRODUCTION STARTING WITH THE SPECIFIED VEHICLE SERIAL NUMBER. THE SAME LOW DISPLACEMENT CALIPERS ARE AVAILABLE FOR SERVICE AND CAN BE USED TO CORRECT THE "INCREASED PEDAL TRAVEL" COMMENTS. THE LOW DISPLACEMENT CALIPERS WILL ALSO REPLACE ALL 1983 THRU 1986 CALIPERS SINGLY OR IN PAIRS. REFER TO THE SERVICE MANUAL AND LABOR TIME GUIDE FOR INSTALLATION TIME AND PROCEDURES.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
