Did you perform the Radio/Audio System Diagnostic System Check?

Go to Step 2

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Adjust the radio balance and fade to the suspect speakers.

Does the speaker operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Is the vehicle equipped with an audio amplifier?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the audio amplifier connector. Refer to Radio Speaker Amplifier Replacement .
  3. Test the appropriate speaker output circuits of the audio amplifier for a short to ground or short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 19

Is the vehicle equipped with an RSA control?

Go to Step 7

Momentarily touch a 1.5-volt battery between the appropriate speaker circuits at the audio amplifier connector.

Does the speaker emit an audible pop?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 10

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the RSA control connector. Refer to Second Seat Audio Control Replacement .
  3. Test the appropriate speaker output circuits of the RSA control for a short to ground or for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 19

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the radio connector. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  3. Momentarily touch a 1.5-volt battery between the appropriate speaker circuits.

Does the speaker emit an audible pop?

Go to Step 12

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the audio amplifier. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 19

Test the circuits of the appropriate speaker for an open or for a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
