Removal Procedure

  1. Remove air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L.
  2. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  3. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  4. Loosen the engine mount strut-to-engine mount strut bracket bolts.
  5. Remove the engine mount strut bracket brace bolts from the upper radiator support and reposition the struts and brackets rearward.
  6. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  7. Remove the cooling fans with the cooling fan shroud. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement .
  8. Remove the radiator lower hose from the radiator. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement .
  9. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler lines from the radiator. Refer to Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Hose Replacement in Automatic Transaxle 4T65-E.
  10. Remove A/C discharge hose from condenser block.
  11. Remove condenser to evaporator inlet tube from condenser block.

  13. Remove radiator/condenser assembly.
  14. Remove condenser tube bracket bolt.
  15. Remove condenser to radiator mounting bolts.
  16. Remove the condenser from the radiator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the condenser to the radiator.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install condenser to radiator mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  5. Install condenser tube bracket bolt
  6. Tighten
    Tighten bolt to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).

  7. Install radiator/condenser assembly.
  8. Install condenser to evaporator inlet tube and bolt to condenser block.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  10. Install A/C discharge hose and nut to condenser block.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  12. Connect the transaxle oil cooler lines to the radiator. Refer to Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Hose Replacement in Automatic Transaxle 4T65-E.
  13. Install the radiator lower hose to the radiator. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement .
  14. Install the cooling fans with the cooling fan shroud. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement .
  15. Reposition and install the engine mount strut bracket brace bolts to the upper radiator support.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten bolts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  17. Install battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  18. NOTICE: When adding coolant, it is important that you use GM Goodwrench DEX-COOL® or HAVOLINE® DEX-COOL® coolant. If Coolant other than DEX-COOL® or HAVOLINE® DEX-COOL® is added to the system the engine coolant will require change sooner; at 50 000 km (30,000 mi) or 24 months.

  19. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  20. Recharge A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  21. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls- 3.4L.
