Heated Seat System Components

The heated seats system consists of the following components:

    • Driver heated seat switch
    • Passenger heated seat switch
    • Driver seat cushion and back heater assembly
    • Passenger seat cushion and back heater assembly
    • Body Control Module (BCM)

Heated Seat System Controls

The heated seats are controlled by the following components:

    • The body control module
    • The heated seat relay modules

Heated Seat Operation

Battery positive voltage to the heated seat switch is controlled by the BCM so that it may be turned off when a charging system fault is detected and load shed is enabled. The heated seat relay module controls the heated seat operation by using inputs from the heated seat switch signal circuit and the heated seat thermistor. Whenever the battery positive voltage is on from the BCM and the heated seat switch is activated the heated seat switch indicator will illuminate. The heated seat thermistor then monitors the seat cushion temperature by varying its resistance to ground. When the seat cushion is cold, resistance through the heated seat thermistor is high and when it is warm then thermistors resistance is low. When the heated seat relay module receives a heated seat switch active signal and the thermistor signal circuit voltage is high, battery voltage is supplied to the seat heater elements. As the seat cushion temperature increases resistance through the thermistor decreases and the heated seat relay module turns off the voltage supply to the heater elements.
