Did you perform the Lighting System Diagnostic System Check?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Lighting Systems

1. Turn ON the ignition.
2. Shift the gear selector lever to the REVERSE position and then to the PARK position.

Do the backup lamps turn on in REVERSE and turn off in PARK?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Disconnect the Park Neutral Position (PNP) switch.

Do the backup lamps turn OFF?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

Repair the short in the backup lamps supply voltage circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 6

Replace the PNP switch. Refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T65-E.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 6

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK
