Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS). Before applying power to the SIS make sure that it is securely fastened. Failure to observe the correct installation procedures could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the center pillar lower trim. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.

  3. Object Number: 628394  Size: SH
  4. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the yellow 2-way harness connector (4) on the inflatable restraint side impact sensor.
  5. Disconnect the wiring harness connector (4) from the side impact sensor.
  6. Loosen the 2 fasteners (1) on the side impact sensor.
  7. Remove the side impact sensor (2) from the center pillar.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove any dirt, grease, and other contaminants from the mounting surface.
  2. Install the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (2) to the center pillar.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Tighten the 2 fasteners (1) to the side impact sensor.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Connect the yellow 2-way harness connector (4) to the side impact sensor.
  7. Install the CPA to the yellow 2-way connector (4).
  8. Install the center pillar lower trim. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
