LOOSE, CRAZED, OR PEELING MYLAR STRIP INSERTS ON THE MOLDING OF DOOR OR QUARTER TRIM ASSEMBLIES ON 1980-81 CHEVROLET AND PONTIAC "B" AND "F" STYLES MAY BE REPLACED WITHOUT TRIM PANEL REMOVAL BY APPLYING 3M SCOTCH BRAND POLYESTER FILM TAPE NUMBER 850 (SILVER) OR EQUIVALENT ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE: 1.COMPLETELY REMOVE LOOSE SECTION(S) OF MYLAR TAPE. CLEAN SURFACES OF TRIM ASSEMBLY MOLDING, WHERE DIE-ELECTRIC MYLAR STRIP(S) HAVE BEEN REMOVED, WITH AN ADHESIVE AND WAX REMOVING SOLVENT SUCH AS 3M GENERAL PURPOSE ADHESIVE CLEANER AND WAX REMOVER OR EQUIVALENT. WIPE SURFACE DRY. 2.USING 3M "SCOTCH BRITE" BRAND GENERAL PURPOSE PAD NUMBER 7447 OR EQUIVALENT, SCUFF SAND INSERT CONTACT SURFACE OF MOLDING TO REMOVE ANY DEBRIS THAT MAY HIGHLIGHT THROUGH REPLACEMENT TAPE. RECLEAN WITH SOLVENT AND WIPE SURFACE DRY. 3.CUT EACH LENGTH OF REPLACEMENT TAPE APPROXIMATELY 1/2" LONGER THAN REQUIRED TO ALLOW FOR TRIMMING THE CORNERS AND APPLY TO MOLDING. 4.TO EFFECT A GOOD BOND BETWEEN FILM TAPE AND VINYL SURFACE OF TRIM ASSEMBLY, USE FINGERS TO PRESS AND SMOOTH TAPE AS IT IS APPLIED. CARE SHOULD BE EXERCISED WHEN APPLYING TAPE TO AVOID CREATING WRINKLES OR BUBBLES FROM TRAPPED AIR. 5.THE ORIGINAL MYLAR MATERIAL MAY HAVE A "BRUSHED" GRAIN FINISH. TO SIMULATE THIS FINISH ON THE REPLACEMENT TAPE, APPLY A PROTECTIVETYPE MASKING TAPE OVER ADJACENT MYLAR MATERIAL TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE FINISH. USE 3M "SCOTCH BRITE" BRAND GENERAL PURPOSE PAD NUMBER 7447 OR EQUIVALENT AND SCUFF SAND IN THE DIRECTION TO PRODUCE DESIRED PATTERN. 6.USING AN X-ACTO KNIFE OR SIMILAR SHARP BLADED TOOL, MITER TAPED ENDS TO CORRESPOND WITH ORIGINAL MYLAR MATERIAL ENDS. 7.REMOVE MASKING TAPE, CLEAN TAPE RESIDUE AND ANY DEBRIS FROM SANDING OPERATION USING THE ADHESIVE AND WAX REMOVING SOLVENT. WIPE SURFACE DRY. THE 3M SCOTCH BRAND POLYESTER FILM TAPE NUMBER 850 (3/4" WIDTH) IS AVAILABLE THROUGH 3M JOBBERS OR THROUGH THE LOCAL 3M BRANCH SALES CENTER (LISTING ATTACHED). REF.
