Some 'G' models may have the E.F.E. Relay mounted incorrectly which allows water intrusion resulting in damage or may have the relay missing. Testing has shown that a missing or damaged E.F.E. Relay has no significant effect on emissions, however, cold weather starting/driveability will be adversely effected. A dead battery condition may also result from water intrusion into the relay.
On all 'G' models, except Buick, the E.F.E. Relay and harness should be strapped to the engine harness above the power brake booster with the relay terminals pointed down. On Buick 'G' models it is mounted to a boss on the left side inner wheelhouse panel.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
