1987 BONNEVILLE MODELS
A depression or buckle may be noted in the hood on some 1987 Bonneville models. The depression or buckle usually appears about fourteen inches rearward of the front edge of the hood, usually about four to six inches on either/or both sides of the hood center, however, this condition may exist at any of the adhesive points between the hood brace and hood skin. This depression/buckle will usually disappear when the hood is opened and then return when the hood is closed.
To correct this condition first check hood alignment. If hood alignment is correct, adjust front hood bumper stops downward and recheck.
If the depression/buckle still exists, use the following procedure.
1. Open hood and remove hood insulator clips from front of hood.
2. Using a sharp putty knife, remove the bond between the hood and hood inner reinforcement, directly under the depression/buckle.
3. Apply silicone rubber adhesive between the two hood panels that have been separated.
4. Reinstall hood insulator.
5. Close hood and allow silicone to cure.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
