SOME 1987 BONNEVILLE MODELS EQUIPPED WITH 3.8L S.F.I. ENGINES (VIN CODES 3)

"This bulletin supersedes butletin 87-6(Gasoline)-17 which should be discarded."

Some 1987 Bonneville models equipped with a 3.8L SFI engine (VIN Code 3) may experience one or more of the following conditions:

Engine will not stay running on the initial start when the engine is cold (with proper fuel pressure and no leak down).

Engine intermittently won't stay running on decel under closed throttle conditions (with proper scanner readings and minimum air rate).

An intermittent "Service Engine Soon" light with a stored false code 32.

If any of these conditions are experienced on a vehicle when the basic engine, controls and systems are performing properly, and cannot be repaired by using currently published service and diagnostic procedures, it may be necessary to install a new service PROM.
