DECK LID LOCKSHAFT DISENGAGES (INSTALL NEW LOCK SHAFT)

Subject: DECK LID LOCKSHAFT BECOMES DISENGAGED (INSTALL NEW LOCKSHAFT)

Models Affected: 1992 BONNEVILLE MODELS -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONDITION:

---------- Some 1992 Bonnevilles, built from start of production to VIN breakpoint N1222545, may exhibit a condition where the deck lid lockshaft extension becomes disengaged from the lock mechanism.

CORRECTION:

----------- To correct this condition, a longer lockshaft has been released. The short lockshaft is stamped with the number B12547. The longer lockshaft is stamped B08876. This longer lockshaft is available from GMSPO as part number 20008876.

To replace the lockshaft, the following procedure must be followed:

1. Remove the trunk trim to gain access to the lock assembly.

2. Remove the lock cylinder retainer and remove the lock cylinder from inside the deck lid assembly.

3. Disengage the lockshaft from the spring on the back of the lock cylinder. Install the new lockshaft part number 20008876.

4. Reinstall the lock cylinder assembly into the deck lid.

5. Reinstall the trunk trim.
