INFO. ON NEW POWER LOCK SWITCH SERVICE KIT AND PROCEDURE

Subject: INFORMATION ON NEW POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH SERVICE KIT AND PROCEDURE Models Affected: 1992 BONNEVILLE SSE AND SSEi W/UA6

MODELS INVOLVED:

1992 Pontiac Bonneville SSE and SSEI w/UA6 theft deterrent from start of production through VIN N1280871.

A new key activated power door lock switch mounted on the door lock cylinder has been released for service. If service is required for the lock mechanism, the switch should be replaced with part number 25615455 (includes switches, pawls, clips, and instructions for both right and left front doors) . Both the left and right front door switches should be replaced at the same time.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

It is possible to replace the switch without removing the entire window and door module using the following procedure:

1. Remove the interior door trim panel. This may include disconnecting all wiring to the trim panel (i.e., power seat, power windows, power mirrors, etc.).

2. Loosen the plastic water barrier (clear plastic sheet) at the upper rear corner of the door.

3. Disconnect the key cylinder lock from the key cylinder pawl (rod clip).

4. Remove the "E" ring clip from the back of the key cylinder and save the "E" clip. Remove the pawl and switch from the lock cylinder assembly and discard.

5. Disconnect the old switch wiring at the bottom of the door.

6. Connect the new switch wiring in the door. Be sure to route the wires behind the rear glass guide.

7. Attach the new rod clip to the pawl.

8. Install the following to the lock cylinder (all are part of the new switch package). - New Switch - Small Plastic Spacer - New Pawl

9. Replace the "E" ring on the back of the lock cylinder assembly.

10. Reinstall the plastic water barrier.

11. Reinstall the interior door trim.
