--------- Some of the 1992 Pontiac "H" models may exhibit an unseated/loose instrument panel defroster grille.
---------- Three (3) types of fasteners attach the defroster grille. Following are the three types used:
(a) Forward clips on the instrument panel
(b) Hook and loop fasteners on the ends of the defroster grille and the instrument panel
(c) The metal clips attached to the defroster grille.
(1) Remove the defroster grille by carefully prying up on the rearward edge and then pulling the grille rearward to disengage the forward clips.
(2) Remove any sensors from the grille by twisting in a clockwise direction as viewed from the bottom of the grille.
(3) If the retention problem is on the right side of the grille, assure the "A" pillar lower trim is notched (see figure 1). If no notch is present, rework the lower moulding per the illustration.
(4) If the hook and loop material has separated from the metal clip which is attached to the instrument panel, the clip must be replaced using part number 16751178.
(5) To achieve maximum retention from the metal clips attached to the defroster grille, the following should be performed to the clip:
a. Remove the felt insulator from the metal clip.
b. Snip the lower portion of the forward leg of the metal clips (below the knee) and reinstall the grille. (see figure 2)

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
