EXCESSIVE HOOD FLUTTER OR DIFFICULT LATCHING

SUBJECT: EXCESSIVE HOOD FLUTTER OR DIFFICULT LATCHING OF PRIMARY LATCH (INSTALL J-NUTS AND SCREWS TO THE FORWARD FLANGE)

MODELS: 1994 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON EXCESSIVE HOOD FLUTTER OR DIFFICULT LATCHING OF THE PRIMARY LATCH.

CAUSE:

THE HOOD INNER AND OUTER PANELS MAY NOT BE PROPERLY MATED AT THE FORWARD FLANGE LOCATION (SEE FIGURE 1).

OR

THE HOOD MAY EXHIBIT CRACKING AROUND PRIMARY LATCH AREA. REFER TO CORPORATE BULLETIN #431013 FOR REPAIR PROCEDURE.

CORRECTION:

THE CONCERN CAN BE REMEDIED BY INSTALLING J-NUTS AND SCREWS TO THE FORWARD FLANGE OF THE HOOD. REFER TO THE PROCEDURE BELOW:

1. REMOVE THE GRILLE. REFER TO SECTION 10-5 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL.

2. DRILL SIX 7MM HOLES AT LOCATIONS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1 (VIEWS A AND B).

3. USE THE APPROPRIATE COLOR TOUCH-UP PAINT TO COVER ANY EXPOSED METAL.

4. INSTALL SIX J-NUTS, P/N 25558215, AT THE HOLE LOCATIONS.

5. INSTALL SIX SCREWS, P/N 11513801, TO J-NUTS. TIGHTEN TO 2.0 N.M (18 LB. IN.).

6. INSTALL GRILLE.
