Some vehicles may exhibit a rough idle and or poor driveability conditions.
EGR valves may be sticking and/or plugged due to the use of leaded fuel.
On vehicles with rough idle, use the Tech II diagnostic tool to command the EGR valve closed. If the valve is commanded closed and the engine continues to idle rough, there is a potential for buildup on the valve that will not allow it to close. If this occurs, either cycle the valve again with the Tech II commanding the valve open and closed and see if the idle smooths out. If not, replace the valve and command the new valve closed and see if the idle smooths out. If the idle continues to run rough, there is a potential for a different concern causing the rough idle. Refer to the Service Manual for rough idle diagnostic procedures. If the idle smooths out when the EGR valve is closed, disconnect the EGR valve. Leave the EGR solenoid and harness in place. Replace the Mem-Cal in the PCM with the corresponding Mem-Cal number listed below.
