INFO. ON STARTER MOTOR CHANGE/3800 ENGINE

REVISION: 12/06/94

THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION ON THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

SUBJECT: INFORMATION ON STARTER MOTOR CHANGE ON SUPERCHARGED 3800 ENGINE (VIN 1 - RPO L67)

MODELS: 1995 BUICK LESABRE AND PARK AVENUE 1995 OLDSMOBILE EIGHTY EIGHT AND NINETY EIGHT 1995 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE

CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE SUPERCHARGED 3800 ENGINE (VIN 1 - RPO L67) HAVE HAD A STARTER MOTOR CHANGE. VEHICLES PRODUCED PRIOR TO AUGUST 22, 1994 WERE EQUIPPED WITH A PG-250 STARTER. VEHICLES PRODUCED AFTER THIS DATE ARE EQUIPPED WITH AN SD-250 STARTER. THE SD-250 IS THE STARTER MOTOR COMMONLY USED ON (L36 AND L27) NON-SUPERCHARGED ENGINES.

EITHER THE PG-250 OR SD-250 STARTER CAN BE USED IF A VEHICLE REQUIRES A STARTER MOTOR REPLACEMENT. IF THE CARRYOVER SD-250 STARTER IS USED ON A 1995 VEHICLE ORIGINALLY EQUIPPED WITH A PG-250 STARTER, THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE MUST BE CHANGED. THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLES ARE SPECIFIC TO EACH STARTER MOTOR MODEL. FOR EXAMPLE, THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE THAT IS USED WITH THE PG-250 STARTER CANNOT BE INSTALLED TO AN SD-250 STARTER.

FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT SERVICING THESE STARTERS, REFER TO SECTION 6D2 OF THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUAL.
