Parking Brake Cable Replacement Front

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle and suitably support. Refer to Raising and Supporting the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 153115  Size: SH
  3. Loosen the adjuster (2).
  4. Disconnect the front cable (3) from the adjuster (2).
  5. Disconnect the cable retaining nut (1) at the underbody.

  6. Object Number: 153109  Size: SH
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Remove the cable (1) from the lever assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 153109  Size: SH
  1. Connect the cable (1) to the lever assembly.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Raising and Supporting the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 153115  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Connect the cable retaining nut (1) at the underbody.
  5. Tighten
    Torque nut to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  6. Connect the front cable (3) to the adjuster (2).
  7. Adjust the parking brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Inspection .

Parking Brake Cable Replacement Intermediate

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Raising and Supporting the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 153115  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the intermediate cable (2) from the adjuster (1).
  4. Remove the clip (1) from the brake pipe retainer and cable.

  5. Object Number: 153113  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the cable from the rear equalizer (1).
  7. Disconnect the cable from the bracket and the brake pipe retainers.

Installation Procedure

  1. Route and install the cable into the brake pipe retainers and snap the cable into the bracket.
  2. Connect the cable through the top support hole in the underbody.

  3. Object Number: 153113  Size: SH
  4. Connect the left and right rear cables to the intermediate cable, using the equalizer (1).
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Connect the clip around the cable then to the brake pipe retainer.
  7. Tighten
    Torque bolt to 6.0 N·m (53 lb in).

  8. Connect the cable to the adjuster.
  9. Adjust the parking brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Inspection .

Parking Brake Cable Replacement Rear

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Raising and Supporting the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 153115  Size: SH
  3. Loosen the adjuster nut (1) to release cable tension.
  4. Mark the position of the wheel to the wheel studs in the bearing flange.
  5. Remove the tire and the wheel. Mark the position of the brake drum to the wheel studs in the bearing flange.
  6. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  7. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Pedal Assembly Replacement .
  8. Depress the conduit fitting retaining tangs and remove the conduit fitting from the backing plate.

  10. Disconnect the cable (1) from the equalizer (2).

  11. Object Number: 153112  Size: SH
  12. Disconnect the cable (3) from the frame retaining hole (1).
  13. Disconnect the cable from the rear park brake guide (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 153112  Size: SH
  1. Connect the cable through the rear park brake guide.
  2. Install the cable into the retaining hole and snap the cable into place.

  3. Object Number: 153113  Size: SH
  4. Connect the cable (1) to the equalizer (2).
  5. Install the conduit fitting into the backing plate.
  6. Connect the parking brake cable to the parking brake lever. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Pedal Assembly Replacement .
  7. Install the brake drum, the tire and the wheel.
  8. Tighten
    Wheel nuts to 140 N·m (100 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   9. Adjust the parking brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Inspection .
