Rear Bumper Replacement Buick
Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the rear compartment sill plate. Refer to
Rear Compartment Sill Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Remove the rear compartment side trim. Refer to
Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Left Side
and
to
Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Right Side
.
- Remove the nuts (5)
that retain the fascia (3) to the quarter panels.
- Remove the nuts (1) that retain the fascia to the rear
end panel (2).
- Remove the screws that retain the wheelhouse extensions to the
fascia.
- Remove the clips (4) that retain the fascia to the taillamp
filler panels (7).
- Remove the nuts that retain the impact bar to the energy absorbers.
- Remove the bumper.
Installation Procedure
Important: Remember the location and the number of shims.
- Install the nuts in order to retain the bumper to both sides of the
energy absorber.
- Install the clips (4) in order to retain the fascia (3)
to the taillamp filler panels (7).
- Install the nuts (1) in order to retain the fascia to the
rear end panel (2).
- Install the nuts that retain the fascia to the quarter panels.
- Install the screws that retain the wheelhouse extensions to the
fascia.
- Install the rear compartment side trim. Refer to
Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Left Side
and
to
Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Right Side
.
- Install the rear compartment sill plate. Refer to
Rear Compartment Sill Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Lower the vehicle.
Rear Bumper Replacement Oldsmobile
Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to

- Remove the rear compartment sill plate. Refer to

.
- Remove the rear compartment side trim. Refer to
Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Left Side
and
to
Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Right Side
.
- Remove the bolts (3)
that retain the fascia (2) to the quarter panels.
- Remove the following components that retain the fascia (2)
to the rear end panel:
- Remove the screws that retain the wheelhouse extensions to the
fascia.
- Remove the nuts (5) that retain the impact bar (6)
to the energy absorbers.
Important: Remember the location and the number of the shims (7).
- Remove the bumper.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the nuts (5)
in order to retain the impact bar (6) to the energy absorbers.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
- Install the following components in order to retain the fascia (2)
to the rear end panel:
Tighten
Tighten the bolts and the nuts to 9.5 N·m (84 lb in).
- Install the bolts (3) in order to retain the fascia (2)
to the quarter panels.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 9.5 N·m (84 lb in).
- Install the screws that retain the wheelhouse extensions to the
fascia (2).
- Install the rear compartment side trim. Refer to
Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Left Side
and
Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Right Side
.
- Install the rear compartment sill plate. Refer to
Rear Compartment Sill Trim Plate Replacement
.
- Lower the vehicle.

Removal Procedure

- Remove the rear compartment sill plate. Refer to

- Remove the rear compartment side trim. Refer to

- Remove the following components
