Removal Procedure

Important: There is no service interval for in-line fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-line fuel filter if the filter is restricted.

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Caution: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  3. Raise the vehicle.
  4. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the fuel feed pipe (4). Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  5. Remove the threaded connection at the in-line fuel filter (3).
  6. Important: Inspect the O-ring on the fuel filter outlet pipe for cracks or damage. Replace as required.

  7. Inspect the fuel lines for cuts, swelling, cracks, and distortion. Replace the lines as required.
  8. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Always re-attach the fuel lines and fuel filter with all original type fasteners and hardware.

Do not repair sections of fuel pipes.

  1. Remove the protective caps from the new in-line fuel filter.
  2. Install the new plastic connector retainers on the in-line fuel filter inlet and outlet.
  3. Install the new plastic connector retainers in the same position as on the old in-line fuel filter.

  4. Install the quick-connect fitting (4) at the inlet of the in-line fuel filter. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  5. Important: Make sure that the O-ring is installed on the outlet pipe before installing the pipe.

  6. Install the threaded connection at the in-line fuel filter (3). Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the nut from turning.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the outlet nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft) .

  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
  11. 7.1. Turn ON the ignition switch for 2 seconds.
    7.2. Turn OFF the ignition switch for 10 seconds.
    7.3. Turn ON the ignition switch.
    7.4. Check for fuel leaks.
