SCHEMATIC REFERENCE: Backup Lamp Schematics

Did you perform the Lighting System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the backup lamp relay parameter in the rear integration module (RIM) data output list.

Does the scan tool display OFF status?

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the backup lamp relay.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Did the backup lamps turn OFF?

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a test light from the control circuit of the backup lamp relay to the coil side feed circuit of the backup lamp relay.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test light illuminate?

Test for a short to ground in the backup lamp relay control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the RIM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
