Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Radio/Audio System?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.

  3. Tune the radio to a known strong AM station then to a known strong FM station.

Is the radio reception clear?

--

Inspect for proper connections at the antennas and the antenna module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the antenna module harness connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Turn ON the radio.
  5. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit and ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Tune the radio to the FM band.
  2. Measure the voltage from the FM composite signal circuit of the antenna module to a good ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

6 V-8 V

Is there poor or no reception only on AM?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  4. Important:: Always zero the DMM before taking a resistance measurement to ensure an accurate reading.

  5. Measure resistance between the antenna module connector ground and the front windshield antenna ground.

Does the resistance measure greater than the specified value?

0.50 ohms

Measure resistance of the antenna cable center conductor between the radio and the antenna module.

Does the resistance measure greater than the specified value?

1.0 ohms

Measure resistance of the antenna cable center conductor between the front windshield antenna and the antenna module.

Does the resistance measure greater than the specified value?

0.50 ohms

  1. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  2. Connect the antenna module harness connector.
  3. Disconnect the front windshield antenna from the antenna module.
  4. Connect the rear antenna.
  5. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  6. Tune the radio to a known strong FM station.

Does the FM reception remain poor?

Test the battery positive voltage circuit for an open, short to ground or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in wiring repairs.
