Notice: Do not attempt to insert any disc into a CD player except those discs
which display the symbol shown on the disc label illustration. Insertion of
a disc which does not display this symbol, such as the 76 mm (3 in)
disc, may cause damage to the CD player and/or disc.
Power Cycling
If a CD is playing when the radio is turned off or powered down, upon
turning back on, the CD resumes playing from the position reached prior to
the shut down. The radio display shows the disc selected (U1S) and/or track
selected and the CD changer icon and/or CD icon is lit. If the radio is
shut down or looses battery voltage upon reapplication of power, the following
actions occur:
When the radio is in the OFF mode.
• | The time of day is displayed for 5 seconds |
• | CALIBRATING appears for 5 seconds |
When the radio is turned on, the following actions occur:
• | CALIBRATING appears for 5 seconds |
• | The CD or CD changer is initialized. |
• | The CD starts where it was prior to power loss |
• | The CD changer will start at disc 1 track 1 |
CD Load, CD Player
The CD player will automatically complete the loading cycle after you
insert a CD approximately 1/2 of the way into the CD player. The CD
player will begin playing track 1 on the disc.
If the CD player is not presently loaded, the CD Load function is available
at all times.
CD Load, CD Changer
Load the CD into the cartridge
tray (1), with the label surface facing up.
The CD changer cartridge (1) must be fully inserted and the CD
changer door fully closed for the CD changer to load the first disc. The CD
changer will shuffle through the cartridge trays to determine which trays
contain discs. CD changer icon will flash during this time.
CD Eject, CD player
The CD eject function is active with battery voltage. You may eject
the disc with the ignition switch in the OFF position. With the radio and
ignition in the ON position, pressing the EJECT button mutes the disc
and the audio switches to the previous radio function. The loading motors
eject the disc. The CD IN indicator turns off.
At any time, with the radio or the ignition in the ON position or the
OFF position, if you do not remove an ejected disc from the CD load mechanism
within 25 seconds the disc will automatically reload. The play
mode will not activate.
CD Eject, CD changer
The cartridge eject function is active with battery voltage. You may
eject the cartridge with the ignition switch in the OFF position. With the
radio and ignition in the ON position, opening the CD changer cartridge
door mutes the disc and the audio switches to the previous radio function.
The loading motors eject the cartridge. The CD changer Icon turns off.
TAPE/AUX Button (U1N)
Press the TAPE/AUX button in order to switch between the remote CD changer
(U1S) and the tape. TAPE will appear when the tape is active. The disc number
and track number appears when the remote CD changer is active.
CD/AUX Button (U1P)
Press the CD/AUX button in order to switch between the CD player and
the remote CD changer (U1S). The disc number and track number appears when
the remote CD changer is active. The track number appears when the remote
CD changer is active.
CD/TAPE Button (U1Q)
Press the CD/TAPE button in order to switch between the CD player, the
remote CD changer (U1S) and the tape. TAPE will appear when the tape is active.
The disc number and track number appears when the remote CD changer is active.
The track number appears when the CD is active.
Recall Button (RCL)
Press the RCL button in order to display the length of time that the
current track has been playing.
Stop
The following functions stop the CD player from playing:

Press the AM/FM button in order to switch the unit to the radio mode.
This will display the last frequency and band selected. The TAPE/CD button
switches the unit to cassette mode only on dual playback units with
a cassette loaded. Load a tape in order to switch the unit to the
cassette mode. Eject the disc, or CD changer cartridge in order to
switch the unit to the tuner mode.
Random (RDM Button)
The RDM button is a non-latching control. The RDM button serves
as a dual function with the radio preset # 3. Press the RDM button
in the CD play mode, in order to stop playing the current selection while
the microcomputer chooses a random playback order. Play then resumes, the
tracks play in the random order that was chosen. When the final selection
has been played, the unit continues playing in the original random order.
Press the RDM button at any point during random playback in order to continue
in the normal sequence beginning with the current track. For remote CD changer
options, the random feature operates between the tracks on all of the available
discs. The RDM icon is displayed when the feature is active.
Fast Reverse (REV Button)
The REV button is a non-latching momentary contact control. The REV
button serves a dual function with the radio preset button # 4. The
radio preset button is a press and hold type button. The button allows
reverse movement within the disc at a faster rate than normal playback
rate as long as the button is held. When activated, the audio level
reduces by 6dB. The disc plays in the reverse direction at a rate
of 6 times normal speed. Elapsed time within the selected track
displays while in the REV mode. The following items display after you
release the REV button:
• | The disc number (U1S) and/or track number |
• | The user selected default |
Fast Forward (FWD Button)
The FWD button is a non-latching momentary contact control. The FWD
button serves a dual function with the radio preset button # 1. The
radio preset button is a press and hold type button. The button allows
forward movement within the disc at a faster rate than normal playback
rate as long as the button is held. When activated, the audio level
reduces by 6dB. The disc plays in the forward direction at a rate
of 6 times normal speed. Elapsed time within the selected track
displays while in the FWD mode. The following items display after you
release the FWD button:
• | The disc number (U1S) and/or track number |
• | The user selected default |
Disc Select (PROG Button)
For CD changer applications (U1S), the radio PROG button is a non-latching
momentary contact control. The PROG button serves a dual function with the
radio preset button # 2. It functions as a disc select when you are
in the CD changer mode. Each momentary button press increases the disc number
by one, starting from the presently selected disc or at the lowest numbered
disc, if a disc has not been previously selected. The disc count wraps back
to the first available disc after the last disc is selected. Preset button
# 5 is a hidden button that decreases the disc number by one. Only
the cartridge slot numbers with discs installed are available for selection.
During the selection process the following actions occur:
• | The disc number displays |
• | Track number 1 is displayed |
The disc and track numbers always display simultaneously.
Error (ERR) Detection, CD player
The radio display indicates an ERR in the display if any of the following
conditions exist:
• | Moisture impairs the focusing mechanism |
• | A tracking problem occurs |
• | A servo problem occurs. |
• | A disc is inserted upside down |
The ERR remains lit in the display for 5 seconds, along with
the normal information.
If you insert a CD upside down, the following actions occur:
• | 00 appears in the display |
• | E30 when the CD is selected to be played |
The ERR graphics turn off under one of the following conditions:
• | The radio becomes the active source |
The ERR display does not light unless the following conditions are true:
• | The CD player is active |
• | The CD player is in the play mode |
Error (ERR) Detection, CD changer
The radio display indicates an ERR in the display if any of the following
conditions exist:
• | Moisture impairs the focusing mechanism |
• | A tracking problem occurs |
• | A disc has been inserted into the cartridge tray with the label
surface facing down |
The ERR remains lit in the display for 5 seconds, along with
the normal information. If you insert CD upside down, the following actions
occur:
• | The CD player is not able to initialize |
• | The unit will not shift into the audio modes |
• | An ERR is lit in the display |
The ERR graphics turn off under one of the following conditions:
• | The CD is reinserted correctly |
The ERR display does not light unless the following conditions are true:
• | The CD changer is active |
• | The CD changer is in the play mode |
Mode Switching
The unit changes status without popping on the audio lines. The lapses
do not exceed 2 seconds between switching sources. After the initialization
occurs there are no pauses.
