Subject: | Location of Diagnosis in the Service Manuals |
Models: | All 2000 Passenger Cars and Trucks |
Beginning with the 2000 model year, some of the information in the Service Manuals will be organized in a new manner. This new structure will help you find the correct service information quickly.
The service information will be organized by the symptom that appears when there is a fault. Priority will be given to the symptom types in the following order:
If a system's warning lamp is ON, refer to that system's sub-section for the appropriate service information. For example, if the ABS lamp is illuminated and a steering system DTC is set, refer to the ABS sub-section for diagnosis.
If a message appears on the Driver Information Center, refer to the sub-section of the indicated system for the appropriate service information. For example, if the Low Coolant Level message is displayed, refer to the Engine Cooling sub-section for diagnosis.
If there is only one symptom, refer to the appropriate sub-section for diagnosis.
For example, if the mirror on the driver side door does not operate properly and a DTC is set, but there is not a warning lamp or a message, refer to the Doors sub-section. Or, if the rear window defogger does not operate properly, refer to the Stationary Windows sub-section.
Important: The name of the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock has changed. The component is now called the Auto Trans Shift Lock Control. The wiring schematics and the diagnosis are now in the Automatic Transmission sub-section of the Service Manual.
Beginning with the 2000 model year Service Manuals, some sub-sections will include the Diagnostic Starting Point. The Diagnostic Starting Point identifies the correct procedure in order to begin the diagnosis.
