Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint Y4153225

Condition

Some customers may comment on a wavy or dimpling appearance in the roof panel at the rear corner of the sunroof module assembly.

Cause

This appearance condition may be due to a gap, approximately 6 mm (0.2 in) between the sunroof module and the roof panel support bracket just forward of the rear seat assist handle.

Correction

Install a longer fastener and washers between the sunroof module and the roof panel support bracket. Perform the following procedure:

  1. Cycle the sunroof glass panel to the closed position.
  2. Pull the front door opening weatherstrip away from the rear upper corner of the door opening flange to the middle of the center pillar.
  3. Pull the rear door opening weatherstrip away from the top of the rear door opening flange.
  4. Remove the rear seat assist handle.
  5. • Remove the two fasteners.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
  6. Remove the rear quarter upper trim panel.
  7. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement -- Rear Quarter Upper in the Interior Trim sub-section of the Service Manual. Ensure the clips remain with the panel.

  8. Pull out the upper portion of the center pillar garnish molding/trim panel. Ensure the clips remain with the trim panel.
  9. Remove the rear and middle/center sunroof module to roof panel fasteners.
  10. Install the new fastener.
  11. • Install the new fastener, P/N 11516932, through the middle/center sunroof module attachment bracket.
    • Install the 3.2 mm (0.13 in) washer, P/N 11518111 and one 1.5 mm (0.06 in) washer, P/N 01646653, onto the fastener between the sunroof module and the roof panel support bracket.

    Tighten
Tighten the fastener to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  12. Inspect the roof at the rear corner of the sunroof. If the condition still exists, install an additional 1.5 mm (0.06 in) washer, P/N 01646653, onto the fastener between the sunroof module and the roof panel support bracket.
  13. Tighten
Tighten the fastener to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  14. Install the rear sunroof module to the roof panel fastener.
  15. Tighten
Tighten the fastener to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

Important: For this repair only, the rear of the sunroof glass panel is not to exceed 1 mm (0.04 in) below the top surface of the roof panel.

  16. Inspect the sunroof glass height and opening. If necessary, adjust the height of the sunroof glass panel. Refer to Sunroof Glass Height and Opening Fit Adjustment in the Roof sub-section of the Service Manual.
  17. Install rear seat assist handle.
  18. • Connect the electrical connector.
    • Install the two fasteners.
