J 39580 Universal Engine Support Table

Removal Procedure

  1. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture in Engine Mechanical-3.8L.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  4. Remove the fasteners retaining the rack and pinion at the left side of the vehicle.
  5. Remove the front tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  6. Remove the engine splash shield.
  7. Separate the ball joints from the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement in Front Suspension.
  8. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement in Body Front End.

  10. Remove the brackets (2) securing the power steering lines at the engine frame by lifting the push pin (1).
  11. Remove the brackets securing the transmissions cooler lines to the engine frame.
  12. Remove the fasteners securing the rack and pinion at the right side of the vehicle.
  13. Support the rack and pinion with a wire to the body.
  14. Remove the fastener securing the front transmission mount to the frame. Refer to Transmission Front Mount Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T65-E.

  16. Remove the fasteners securing the rear transmission mount to the frame. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T65-E.

  17. Object Number: 333761  Size: SH
  18. Support the engine frame near the frame insulators using J 39580 or suitable jackstands.

  19. Object Number: 105376  Size: SH
  20. Remove the engine frame insulator fasteners (3) securing the engine frame (2) to the vehicle.
  21. Lower the engine frame (2) from the vehicle.

  23. Separate the engine frame insulators from the engine frame. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement .
  24. If the engine frame is to be replaced, remove the lower control arms. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement in Front Suspension.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the lower control arms. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement in Front Suspension.

  2. Object Number: 105375  Size: SH
  3. Assemble the engine frame insulators to the engine frame. Refer to Frame Cushion or Insulator Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 105376  Size: SH
  5. Using 16 mm (0.630 in) dowel pins in the alignment holes (1), align the engine frame (2) with the body.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the engine frame insulator fasteners (3) to secure the engine frame (2) to the vehicle.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 191 N·m (141 lb ft).

  9. Remove the jack stands supporting the engine frame.

  11. Install the nuts to secure the rear transmission mount to the bracket. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T65-E.
  12. Install the fastener in order to secure the front transmission mount to the frame. Refer to Transmission Front Mount Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T65-E.

  13. Object Number: 105266  Size: SH
  14. Install the fasteners in order to secure the rack and pinion to the engine frame. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement in Power Steering System.
  15. Install the brackets in order to secure the transmission cooler lines to the engine frame.
  16. Install the brackets in order to secure the power steering lines (1, 2) at the engine frame. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement in Power Steering System.
  17. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement in Body Front End.
  18. Install the ball joints to the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement in Front Suspension.
  19. Install the engine splash shield.
  20. Install the front tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  21. Remove the engine support fixture.
  22. Lower the vehicle.
  23. Test drive the vehicle in order to ensure there are no performance issues.
