Tools Required

1. Remove the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.



2. Remove the 8 bolts attaching the flywheel to the crankshaft flange. Discard the bolts.
3. Remove the flywheel.
4. Inspect the crankshaft mating surfaces for burrs.
5. Clean and inspect the engine flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Cleaning and Inspection .

1. Install the flywheel.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

2. Install the flywheel bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the new flywheel bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft). Use the J 45059 in order to tighten the bolts an additional 50 degrees.

3. Install the J 8001 to the engine block.
4. Check the flywheel runout at the 3 attaching bosses. Ensure that the crankshaft end-play is held in one direction when checking flywheel runout. Flywheel runout should not exceed 0.381 mm (0.015 in).
5. If flywheel runout is out of specification, tap on the high side with a mallet in order to correct runout.
6. Replace the flywheel if runout cannot be corrected.
7. Install the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
