Verify that the compass is inaccurate or inoperative or that CALIBRATE COMPASS is displayed.

Does the system operate normally?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, perform the Display(s) Test in the IPC Output Controls.

Do all of the compass display segments illuminate?

Perform the compass calibration procedure. Refer to Electronic Compass Calibration .

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the electronic compass module.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the ignition 3 voltage circuit and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Measure the voltage between the rear defog relay control circuit and battery positive voltage.
  2. Start the engine.
  3. Press the rear defog button.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?
