Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.

in SIR.
- Remove the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle
.
- Remove the following:
3.1. | Shift lever screw (3) |
3.2. | Shift lever assembly (4) |
3.3. | Shift lever seal (2) |
Notice: Do not use excessive force when removing the automatic transmission
shift lock control from the steering column. Using excessive force may cause
damage to the automatic transmission shift lock control and/or the steering
column.
- Remove the automatic transmission shift lock control in
the following way:
4.1. | Put the shift lever clevis into the NEUTRAL position. |
4.2. | Use a small screwdriver to pry the automatic transmission shift
lock control away from the steering column jacket assembly and the cable shift
cam assembly. |
- Remove and discard 3 flat
head 6 lobed soc tap screws from the linear shift assembly.
- Remove the linear shift assembly.
