Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.

  1. If the fuse in the jumper opens when you perform this test, the signal circuit is shorted to voltage.

DEFINITION: One or more DIC switches are inoperative.

Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Press each driver information center (DIC) switch one at a time.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the following DIC switch parameters in the IPC data list:
  5. • DIC Mode Button (U50)
    • DIC Reset Button (U50)
    • DIC Select Button (U50)
    • English/Metric Switch (U50, U2F)
    • Tire Reset Switch (U2F)
    • Trip Reset Switch (U50, U2F)

Does the scan tool display On or Active when each switch is pressed?

Does the scan display On or Active when any switch is pressed?

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DIC switch.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the suspect DIC switch and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the suspect DIC switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display On or Active?

Test the signal circuit of the suspect DIC switch for an open, a high resistance, or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the DIC switch for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIC switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the DIC switch. Refer to Driver Information Display Switch Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
