Removal Procedure
Caution: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint front end sensor. Before applying
power to the front end sensor make sure that it is securely fastened. Failure to
observe the correct installation procedure could cause SIR deployment, personal
injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
- Remove the front air deflector. Refer to
Front Air Deflector Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Remove the connector position assurance
(CPA) (5) from the front end sensor wiring harness connector (4).
- Disconnect the front end sensor wiring harness connector (4) from
the front end sensor (1).
Important: The front end sensor mounting fastener (3) has left handed threads.
- Through the access hole located in the bottom of the lower tie bar, loosen the
front end sensor mounting fastener (3).
- Remove the front end sensor (1) from the lower tie bar by lifting
upward and sliding rearward out of the key hole slot (2).
Installation Procedure
- Remove any dirt, grease, or other contaminants from the mounting surface.
- Point the arrow on the sensor toward the front of the vehicle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the front end sensor (1)
horizontally into the key hole slot (2) located in the lower tie bar.
Tighten
Tighten the fastener (3) to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Connect the front end sensor harness wiring connector (4) to the
front end sensor (1).
- Install the connector position assurance (CPA) (5) to the front
end sensor wiring harness connector (4).
- Install the front air deflector. Refer to
Front Air Deflector Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
