Starter Replacement L36
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the torque converter cover. Refer to
Torque Converter Cover Replacement
in Transaxle-4T65-E.
- Disconnect the battery
positive cable from the starter.
- Disconnect the wire from the solenoid S terminal on the starter.
- Remove the 2 starter motor
mounting bolts.
- Remove the starter motor.
Installation Procedure
- Install the starter motor.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the starter
motor mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the starter motor mounting bolts to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).
- Connect the battery positive
cable to the starter.
Tighten
Tighten the battery positive cable to the starter nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Connect the starter motor S terminal wire.
Tighten
Tighten the solenoid S terminal nut to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).
- Install the torque converter cover. Refer to
Torque Converter Cover Replacement
in Transaxle-4T65-E.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
Starter Replacement LD8
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Remove the intake manifold. Refer to
Intake Manifold Replacement
in Engine Mechanical - 4.6L.
- Disconnect
the BAT cable from the starter.
- Disconnect the wire from the S terminal on the starter.
- Remove
the 2 starter motor mounting bolts.
- Remove the starter motor.
Installation Procedure

- Connect the starter motor S terminal wire.
Tighten
Tighten the starter solenoid S terminal nut to 4 N·m (35 lb in).
- Connect the starter motor BAT terminal wire.
Tighten
Tighten the battery cable to starter terminal nut
to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the starter motor.
- Install the starter motor mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the starter motor mounting bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
- Install the intake manifold. Refer to
Intake Manifold Replacement
in Engine Mechanical - 4.6L.
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
