Luggage Compartment Description and Operation General

The rear compartment lid release system includes the following main components:

    • The rear compartment lid latch assembly
This assembly includes an electrically-controlled release actuator and a release cable.
    • The rear compartment lid latch striker
    • An IP-mounted rear compartment lid release button with a mechanical lockout feature
    • The keyless entry transmitter

Pressing the rear compartment lid release button opens the rear compartment, provided that the following conditions are both true:

    • The gear shift lever is in PARK or NEUTRAL.
    • The rear compartment lid release lockout is in the UNLOCKED position.

Pressing rear compartment lid release button on the keyless entry transmitter opens the rear compartment provided that one of the following conditions is true:

    • The ignition switch is OFF.
    • The ignition switch is in RUN and the gear shift lever is set to PARK.

The mechanical lockout disables the IP-mounted rear compartment lid release button . Lid release operation using the keyless entry transmitter is not affected. In order to use the lockout feature, insert the ignition key into the IP-mounted rear compartment lid release button. Turn the key 1/4 turn, then remove the key.

When the vehicle is in park and the trunk release switch is pressed it grounds the rear compartment lid release switch input in the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM then sends a Class 2 message to the Remote Function Actuator (RFA). The RFA supplies an internal ground for the coil side of the rear compartment lid release relay activating the relay. The rear compartment lid release actuator receives battery voltage through the 15 A trunk release fuse when the relay closes. Ground is supplied by G400.

The rear compartment lid may also be released using the keyless entry transmitter.

Luggage Compartment Description and Operation Indicator Inoperative

TRUNK AJAR - 24

The IPC illuminates the TRUNK AJAR - 24 indicator in the DIC when the body control module (BCM) detects that the trunk is ajar or open. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the BCM requesting illumination. The IPC sends a class 2 message to the BCM to activate an audible warning when the vehicle moves a minimum of 6 meters (20 feet) with the trunk open. The IPC calculates the distance based on a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the vehicle speed.
