Circuit Description

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) monitors the tire press reset switch, with systems monitor, or the driver information center (DIC) reset switch signal circuit, with DIC. If the IPC detects a ground on either reset switch signal circuit for more than a predetermined amount of time, a malfunction is detected.

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B2818 TPM Reset Malfunction

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • The ignition is ON.
    • Ignition voltage is 10.5-14.7.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The IPC detects a ground on the tire press reset switch signal circuit, or the DIC reset switch signal circuit for more than 15 continuous seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • DTC B2818 is stored in memory.
    • The IPC ignores the reset switch signal circuit input.

Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC

    • A current DTC will clear on the next consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycle.
    • A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycles.

Diagnostic Aids

The IPC disables the reset switch input when a malfunction is detected making the switch status unknown when viewing the reset switch parameter on the scan tool. If an intermittent malfunction is suspected, cycle the ignition after repositioning wires and connectors to verify correct switch status.

Test Description

The number below refers to the step number on the diagnostic table.
