Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the left instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  2. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 428863  Size: SH
  4. Remove the bolts/screws from the knee bolster bracket at the instrument panel.
  5. Remove the bolts/screws from the knee Bolster bracket at the steering column support.
  6. Remove the knee bolster bracket from the instrument panel. Refer to Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 428493  Size: SH
  8. Remove the steering column bracket bolts.
  9. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the electrical connectors to the bracket.

  2. Object Number: 428493  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the steering column bracket and bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  5. Install the knee bolster bracket to the instrument panel.
  6. Install the bolts/screws to the knee bolster bracket at the steering column support.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts/screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  8. Install the bolts/screws to the knee bolster bracket at the instrument panel.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts/screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  10. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  11. Install the left instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
