Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement W/L36/L67

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Install a drain pan under the vehicle.
  3. Remove the steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 460600  Size: SH
  5. Remove the power steering hose retainer (2) from the engine frame at gear.
  6. Remove the power steering pressure hose (1) from the power steering gear.

  7. Object Number: 254768  Size: SH
  8. Remove the power steering pressure hose at the power steering pump.
  9. Remove the power steering pressure hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering pressure hose to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 254768  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  5. Install the power steering pressure hose in the retainers (3).
  6. Install the power steering pressure hose (1) to the power steering gear.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering pressure hose to the power steering gear to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  8. Install the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement .
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  11. Inspect the power steering system for leaks.

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 284268  Size: SH
  1. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
  2. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement .
  5. Remove the fascia extension panel. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Extension Replacement in Bumpers.

  6. Object Number: 493550  Size: SH
  7. Remove the power steering pressure hose bracket retaining nut (2) at the cylinder head.

  8. Object Number: 460600  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose (1) from the bracket (2) at the frame.
  10. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering gear.
  11. Remove the power steering pressure hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 460600  Size: SH
  1. Install the power steering pressure hose (4) to the vehicle.
  2. Connect the power steering pressure hose (1) to the bracket (2) at the frame.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Connect the power steering pressure hose fitting to the power steering gear.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  6. Install the power steering pressure hose bracket to the cylinder head.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten nut (2) to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  8. Install the fascia extension panel. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Extension Replacement in Bumpers.
  9. Install the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement .
  10. Lower the vehicle.

  11. Object Number: 284268  Size: SH
  12. Connect the power steering pressure hose fitting to the power steering pump.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  14. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
  15. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
