DIESEL VALVE COVER REMOVAL- SERVICE MANUAL CORRECTION

1978 THROUGH 1983 CHASSIS SERVICE MANUALS MAY STATE THAT WHEN RE- MOVING ENGINE VALVE COVER(S), THE INJECTION PUMP AND PUMP LINES BE REMOVED. THIS IS INCORRECT. IT IS NECESSARY TO REMOVE ONLY THE INJECTION LINES. INJECTION PUMP LINES MAY BE REMOVED FROM EITHER THE LEFT OR RIGHT SIDES AS REQUIRED. WHEN PERFORMING ANY SERVICE ON A DIESEL ENGINE THAT REQUIRES VALVE COVER REMOVAL ALWAYS REMOVE THE PUMP LINES COMPLETELY. NEVER DISCONNECT THEM FROM THE INJECTOR NOZZLES AND TRY TO POSITION OUT OF THE WAY. THIS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE LINES AND RESULT IN A POOR RUNNING ENGINE.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
