A DESIGN CHANGE WAS INCORPORATED IN THE 125C TRANSAXLE AT THE START OF PRODUCTION OF THE 1985 MODEL YEAR TO IMPROVE PARK/NEUTRAL TO DRIVE ENGAGEMENT. THIS CHANGE ELIMINATED THE CHECK BALL IN THE HOUSING (INDICATED BY THE * IN FIGURE 1) AND PROVIDED BLEED ORIFICES IN THE PISTON ASSEMBLY (629). THE REDESIGNED FORWARD CLUTCH HOUSING (SERVICE PART NO. 8653977) IS TO BE USED TO SERVICE ALL 125C TRANSAXLES IN 1982 THROUGH 1986 MODELS. BECAUSE THE FIRST DESIGN PISTON IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE NEW DESIGN FORWARD CLUTCH HOUSING, A PISTON SEAL PACKAGE (SERVICE PART NO. 8637973) MUST BE INSTALLED WHENEVER REPLACING A FORWARD CLUTCH HOUSING ON A 1982 THROUGH 1984 MODEL TRANSAXLE. General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
