A/C COMPRESSOR LABOR OPERATION 1984-1985 FIERO

1984 AND 1985 FIERO EQUIPPED WITH L-4 ENGINE, DA6 A/C COMPRESSOR

Because of a recent request for review, we learned that during model year 1984 a larger diameter pulley was incorporated on the DA6 A/C compressor used on the Fiero. The use of this larger diameter pulley has increased the degree of difficulty in removing the compressor from the vehicle when service is necessary. Therefore, the following Labor Operations have been revised accordingly:

OPERATION REVISED OPERATION DESCRIPTION NUMBER TIME

Clutch Plate and Hub Assembly, Compressor-Replace D4240 1.2 hrs. Rotor and/or Bearing, Compressor-Replace D4260 1.3 hrs. Coil and/or Pulley Rim, Compressor Clutch- D4280 1.4 hrs. Replace Seal, Seat and/or "O" Ring, Compressor Shaft- D4300 1.5 hrs. Replace Head, Gasket and/or "O" Ring, Front - Replace D4320 1.6 hrs. Head, Reed Assembly, Gasket and/or "O" Ring, Rear - Replace D4335 1.7 hrs. Cylinder and Shaft Assembly, Compressor - D4420 1.8 hrs. Replace Compressor Assembly - Replace D4440 1.0 hrs.

These changes are effective immediately.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
