Some 1984-85 Fieros may exhibit a poorly aligned (sagging) right and/or left door.
This condition may be related to assembly plant processing requiring that the upper door hinge pin be driven down to gain enough driving clearance for the door outer skin upper front attachment. After the attachment was made, the hinge pin was then driven back into its original position. Driving the pin down caused the retaining clip tabs to break which can produce a loose pin and misaligned door.
Production was corrected with the use of a new shorter hinge pin assembly which eliminates the need to drive the pin down.
This condition can be repaired by installing a new service pin of either the new or old design. Both pins are available through GM Parts. A LOOSE DOOR HINGE PIN SHOULD NOT BE REINSTALLED. Retaining clips are not available as a service part.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
