CAMPAIGN: A/C HOSE ASSEMBLY INSTALL A/C HOSE ASSEMBLY

AIR CONDITIONING HOSE ASSEMBLY 1986 Pontiac Fiero Equipped With 2.5L (RPO LR8, VIN Code R) Engine And Air Conditioning

TO: ALL AFFECTED DEALERS:

General Motors of Canada has determined that some 1986 Pontiac Fiero model vehicles equipped with 2.5L engines and air conditioning (A/C) may experience fatigue cracking of the A/C hose assembly near the compressor.

To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, an A/C hose assembly support bracket will be installed on all involved vehicles.

VEHICLES INVOLVED:

Involved are certain 1986 Pontiac Fiero model vehicles equipped with a 2.5L engine and air conditioning, produced within the following the VIN breakpoints:

All affected vehicles have been identified by the VIN listing provided to involved Dealers with this bulletin. Any Dealer not receiving a listing was not shipped any of the affected vehicles.

DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY:

Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.

Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used vehicle inventory, or it is in your Dealership for service in the future, you should take the steps necessary to be sure the campaign correction has been made before reselling or releasing the vehicle.

Owners of vehicles recently sold from your new vehicle inventory are to be contacted by the Dealer, and arrangements made to make the required modification according to instructions contained in this bulletin.

CAMPAIGN PROCEDURE:

Refer to Section 4 of the Service Policies and Procedures Manual for the detailed procedure on handling Product Campaigns. Dealers are requested to complete the campaign on all transfers as soon as possible.

OWNER NOTIFICATION:

All owners of record at the time of campaign release are shown on the attached computer listing and have been notified by first class mail from General Motors. The listings provided are for campaign activity only and should not be used for any other purpose.

Parts required should be ordered through regular channels, as follows:

Note: Kit consists of the following:

(1) Bracket-Hose Assembly (1) Spacer (2) Clamp (l) Bolt-Flg Hex Hd, M10 x 1.5 x 75 (1) Bolt-Flg Hex Hd, M8 x 1.5 x 45 (1) Nut-Hex Flg, M8 x 1.25

PARTS AND LABOUR CLAIM -INFORMATION:

Credit for the campaign work performed will be paid upon receipt of a properly completed campaign claim card, RAPID terminal or DCS transmission in accordance with the following:

Time allowance includes 0.1 hour for Dealer administrative detail associated with this campaign. Parts credit will be based on Dealer net plus 30% to cover parts handling.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Remove (2) existing bolt/screws securing coupled hose assembly to side rail (refer to illustration).

2. Remove and save existing staple from existing sleeve.

3. Slide sleeve away from compressor to allow attachment of clamp to hose assembly.

4. Remove existing nut & bolt/screw securing existing brackets to compressor.

5. Loosely attach clamps, bracket and spacer as shown in illustration.

Note: Be sure clamps are properly oriented with hose diameters.

6. Correctly position bracket and clamps and torque nuts to 40-60 N.m (30-45 lbs. ft.).

7. Slide existing sleeve back into position.

Note: BE SURE SLEEVE COMPLETELY COVERS RUBBER SECTIONS OF HOSE ASSEMBLY AT COMPRESSOR.

8. Reinstall existing staple to secure sleeve in position.

9. Install Campaign Identification Label.

INSTALLATION OF CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL

Clean surface of radiator upper mounting panel and apply a Campaign Identification Label. Make sure the correct campaign number is inserted on the label. This will indicate that the campaign has been completed.
