FRONT END RATTLE
Some 1988 Fiero Formula's and GT's built prior to VIN JP203159 and Fiero Coupes built prior to VIN JP203414, may exhibit a front end (steering rack) rattle, most noticeable on rough roads.
This rattle is due to metal to metal contact between the rack bushing and steering rack shaft.
To repair, replace metal rack bushing with plastic rack bushing P/N 26010668 and install two new steering rack boot clamps P/N 7841287. Refer to Section 3B2 of the 1988 Fiero Service Manual for details of the correct procedure.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
