GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT SOME 1980 FIREBIRDS EQUIPPED WITH AIR CONDITIONING MAY HAVE INTERFERENCE BETWEEN THE A/C EVAPORATOR CORE ALUMINUM INLET PIPE AND THE ENGINE OIL STEEL DIPSTICK TUBE ASSEMBLY. AS A RESULT, THE ALUMINUM INLET PIPE MAY WEAR THROUGH AT THE POINT OF CONTACT WITH THE DIPSTICK TUBE ASSEMBLY.
TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION, DEALERS ARE TO INSEPCT AND, IF REQUIRED, REPOSITION THE A/C EVAPORATOR PIPE. ALSO, REPLACE THE EVAPORATOR CORE AND INLET PIPE ASSEMBLY ON THOSE VEHICLES WHERE THE INTERFERENCE CONDITION HAS CAUSED A REFRIGERATION LEAK.

INVOLVED ARE CERTAIN 1980 PONTIAC FIREBIRD CALIFORNIA MODELS EQUIPPED WITH AIR CONDITIONING AND 5.0 LITER (305 CID) 4-BBL. V-8 ENGINE WITHIN THE FOLLOWING VEHICLE BREAKPOINTS.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
