EXHAUST SYSTEM HEAT SHIELD RETAINING SCREWS

EARLY PRODUCTION 1982 'F' SERIES VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE HEAT SHIELD OR CATALYTIC CONVERTER SHIELD RETAINING SCREW BREAKAGE. THE EARLY PRODUCTION SCREWS ARE ZINC COATED AND ARE BRIGHT METALLIC COLORED IN APPEARANCE. ANY BROKEN SCREWS ENCOUNTERED SHOULD BE REPLACED BY PART NUMBER 11505810 SCREW WHICH IS PHOSPHATE COATED AND IS DULL BLACK IN APPEARANCE. PRODUCTION WILL USE THE PART NUMBER 11505810 SCREW. IN MOST CASES, ANY BROKEN SCREW CAN BE GRIPPED WITH VISE GRIPS, OR CHANNEL LOCKS, AND REMOVED. IF IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO GRIP THE SCREW, IT CAN BE PUNCHED THROUGH AND THEN AN OVERSIZED SCREW (PART NUMBER 11501118) MUST BE USED.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
