'TIP IN' HESITATION NEW PROM INFORMATION

VEHICLES AFFECTED: All 1982 'F' Series Vehicles Equipped With 5.0L C.F.I. Engines (Code 7)

If a customer should comment of a 'tip in' hesitation with their 1982 5.0L CFI engine, a new ECM calibration PROM, P/N 1225588, and EGR valve, P/N 17079818, have been made available to correct this condition. Prior to replacing the PROM and ECR valve, the following checks are to be performed.

1. Disconnect the EGR valve vacuum line at the ECR valve and plug vacuum line.

2. Drive the vehicle and evaluate tip in hesitation.

3. If tip in hesitation persists, refer to Shop Manual for problem diagnosis.

4. If tip in hesitation is eliminated, replace the calibration PROM and EGR valve with part numbers indicated above.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
