FLUID IN TAPE DECKS CLEANING PROCEDURE

Isolated instances have been observed when owners have spilled beverages and other fluids into the tape mechanism, particularly on Firebird AM/FM stereo cassette radios. This is considered negligence by the operator and is not covered under warranty.

If a radio is received with this condition, the costs should not be recharged as a warranty repair.

Minor fluid spills may be cleaned using distilled water. Care must be taken to minimize the washing away of lubricants. Care must also be taken to protect the motor from the distilled water. If cleaned, the deck must be dried thoroughly and relubricated before being reassembled.

If further assistance is required, call "Dial Delco" at 1-800-428-0501 (Indiana 1-800-382-0531).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
