CHOKE LIGHT STAYS ON CHOKE HEATER FUSE BLOWN

An open "choke heater" fuse, which will cause the choke light to go on, may be due to a shorted to ground hood louver solenoid since it is powered by the "choke heater" circuit. If the solenoid has malfunctioned, it should be replaced.

Additional checks should be made to ensure the hood louver is not opening too early thereby causing the solenoid to operate more than normal. The solenoid should open at approximately 5.5" Hg of engine vacuum and less. If you suspect that it is opening too early, replace the hood louver vacuum control switch (part number 10032130) located under the hood. The new switch must be ordered V.I.P. until September 15, 1983, since there is no service stock yet available.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
