BODY SIDE MOLDINGS ARE ATTACHED TO BODY PANELS WITH ADHESIVE TAPE. THESE MOLDINGS MAY BE INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE EITHER AT THE ASSEMBLY PLANT OR AT A DEALERSHIP. THE METHOD RECOMMENDED TO INSTALL LOOSE, COMPLETELY REMOVED, OR NEW MOLDING IS LISTED BELOW. STEP 1: USING 3M GENERAL PURPOSE ADHESIVE CLEANER, PART #08984 OR EQUIVALENT, REMOVE ANY WAX, GREASE, ETC., FROM AREA WHERE THE MOLDING IS TO BE ATTACHED. TO EFFECTIVELY REMOVE ROAD DIRT AND DUST, USE SOAP AND WATER TO CLEAN AREA AND WIPE DRY. THE SURFACE NEEDS TO BE CLEANED OF BOTH WAX/GREASE AND DIRT TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE RETENTION OF MOLDING TO BODY SIDE PANEL. STEP 2: WHEN REQUIRED, APPLY A STRIP OF MASKING TAPE ACROSS THE BODY PANELS, TO BE USED AS A GUIDELINE FOR INSTALLING THE BODY SIDE MOLDINGS. STEP 3: IF BODY AND/OR BODY SIDE MOLDING IS BELOW 21 DEGREE CENTIGRADE (70 DEGREE F) DUE TO SHOP TEMPERATURE OR PRIOR OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE, WARM BODY PANEL AND BODY SIDE MOLDING WITH HEAT LAMP OR HEAT GUN. STEP 4: IF MOLDING TO BE APPLIED TO BODY DOES NOT CONTAIN ADHESIVE TAPE, APPLY EITHER 3M SCOTCHMOUNT AUTOMOTIVE ATTACHMENT TAPE PART #06380, OR PART #06379, OR EQUIVALENT TO MOLDING. STEP 5: ALIGN MOLDING TO TAPE GUIDELINE WHEN GUIDELINE IS REQUIRED AND PRESS MOLDING FIRMLY IN PLACE.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
