ADDITIONAL CANISTER CONTROL VALVE INFORMATION

If it becomes necessary to replace a canister control valve on a 1982-1983 Firebird equipped with the 5.0L V-8 engine, a new control valve (part number 17075074) should be used.

It was determined that the original control valve (part number 17070627) may display some of the conditions referred to in bulletin 82-I-190.

The new control valve will be available for service by the end of February 1983 and will supersede the original number.

The new canister control valve should not be mounted using the normal mounting provisions, rather it should be suspended from the vacuum harness (see illustration). The existing mounting bracket should be removed and discarded.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
