OIL PAN GASKET LEAKS 700R4 TRANSMISSIONS

BEGINNING ON SEPTEMBER 24, 1985 OR JULIAN DATE 267, (REFER TO FIGURE 1), ALL MODELS OF THE THM 700-R4 TRANSMISSION WERE BUILT USING A NEW OIL PAN GASKET (P/N 8654799). THIS NEW GASKET IS THINNER THAN THE CORK TYPE GASKET AND MUST BE USED ONLY FOR 1984 THROUGH 1986 MODEL YEAR TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLIES WITH OIL PANS THAT HAVE A CONTINUOUS RAISED RIB (REFER TO FIGURE 2). ALL 1982 AND 1983 MODEL YEAR TRANSMISSIONS WERE ASSEMBLED WITH OIL PANS THAT DO NOT HAVE A CONTINUOUS RAISED RIB (REFER TO FIGURE 3). WHEN SERVICING THIS TYPE OIL PAN, GASKET P/N 8642360 MUST BE USED. ALL OVERHAUL PACKAGES HAVE BEEN REVISED TO INCLUDE BOTH GASKETS. REFER TO THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUAL FOR OIL PAN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURES, IN ADDITION TO THE CORRECT BOLT TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
